What are the Top Five Grocery Stores in Scottsdale - 85250?

There are several great stores to stock up your pantry shelves in 85250. Here are five of our favorites.

Basha”s

Basha’s is a regional grocery chain with more than 100 stores across the state. Family-owned since 1932, the company runs several stores in the Scottsdale - Phoenix area. The local stores are encouraged to support community projects in their area, and the company donated over $2.5 million to their Charity of the Month program in 2021. In addition, the store offers local non-profits the ability to sell a Community Support Card which community groups can sell to their supporters. Every card entitles a consumer to a 6% discount and provides a novel way of supporting and helping local community groups; The company is also committed to recycling and cage-free eggs.

This store prides itself on personal service, with a good selection of items, weekly specials, and online delivery through Insta-cart. The store is clean and well-stocked, although the lighting could stand for an update. While you can find an occasional great deal, most of their prices are a bit higher than the box stores in the area.

They have an excellent wine selection, bakery, deli, and pharmacy, and their return policy is easy. Try out Basha's if you are looking for a lovely grocery without being pretentious and not as crowded as the big box stores.

Albertson’s

Albertson’s is a national chain with one of the country's largest conglomerates of grocery stores. Although the company had humble beginnings in Idaho, they now run a multitude of stores under 20 different names in 35 states, including the District of Columbia. They are a tremendous player and have the capital to offer an outstanding selection at excellent prices.

Every store is spotless and always well-stocked. The lighting is exceptional, and the loyalty program is easy to work from your phone. Every purchase builds loyalty points you can redeem at the pump, saving money both ways. Their bakery is delicious, and the deli has a good selection of rotisserie chicken that customers can simply grab and go.

The store is also committed to supporting charities like Veteran’s organizations and disability services. Over the past five years, the company has donated over 2.7 billion to charitable causes and, in 2021, supported food and school lunch programs in each of their communities.

The store offers preorder pickup in as little as 2 hours and delivery through Instacart.

Safeway

Everything we just said about Albertsons could be said about Safeway because they operate under the banner of the Albertson giant. This store has many of the same features as its parent company a few blocks. The store is an excellent national chain that you can find in many cities, mainly in the Western half of the country - (there are 909 locations). The company is headquartered in California, while Albertsons still runs its operations from Idaho.

This Safeway has excellent produce, an exquisite bakery, and large wide aisles. The wine area is very sizable, offering lots of selections. Most of the specials mirror Albertson’s, but now and then, you can catch something unique on sale. I like this store because even though it is a chain, it doesn’t feel like it. (Maybe there is something about tradition - my mother used to shop at a Safeway when I was young - and call it crazy, some traditions are worth keeping alive).

The store offers delivery services and pickup. Their weekly ad is easy to read, and the For U app offers some incredible weekly deals that will save you some money. (Buy the special of the week, and it entitles you to 10 cents off the pump this summer)

Target Foods

This Target is located in the Talking Sticks Pavillion of shops. Yes, it is just like every other one of their over 1900 stores across the country. This store is excellent for a quick run, but the food section offers a limited selection of produce and fresh dairy. You can tell they are not trying to compete with other groceries because there is no dedicated deli or bakery. (You should plan on picking up your muffins from Starbucks near the entrance).

The prices are okay, but as I said, it is not a full grocery, so keep your expectations in check because you might not find everything the big box stores have. Staples they have. Ethnic foods, not so much. The store closes at 10 pm, which may hamper some night owls who work crazy shifts.

In all fairness, the Pharmacy is a separate entity and is excellent. The store is clean and well staffed. They have lots of other stuff, like Wally world, so if you are in the store for something else, like school supplies, head to the grocery section and wander through. If you find a sale, get it. (I used Target to stock up on things that are on sale when I find a reasonable price)

Casella's Italian Delicatessen

Casellas has been around forever. This is the place to eat authentic Italian food as your grandmother made. They are not a grocery, per se, but they offer some of the best subs and sandwiches. You need to be prepared because they only take cash. But once you bite into one of their subs, you will experience the Old School Italian and realize why they don’t. They don't need to - they know the line would be out the door and down the block if they did. Needless to say, you will be coming back again and again. The Deli is a local favorite, and the loaves of bread are baked fresh each day.

The Deli is located on the side of a strip mall. Don’t let the rustic decor fool you. The food is worth it. The Deli opens for lunch every day at 11 am.
